Creating An Intention Altar

February 2, 2019

My morning winter ritual begins like this…I wake up, meditate, make my bed, turn on the fireplace, and head to my altar.

Creating an altar or sacred space, is the way I reinforce my intentions and invite more peace, serenity, and self-love into my space.

On my alter, I have selected:

  • Sage to visually or physically clear the energy for the day.

  • Ganesha, an archetype for the removal of obstacles

  • Crystals that are archetypes of the seven major chakras (I select the chakra’s energy I need most that day)

  • Plant-based essential oils I diffuse that align with my day’s attentions.

Setting up a home altar is super easy. Here are my 5 simple steps.

  1. Ask “What do I want?” Whether it’s inspiration, healing, strength, peace, abundance, or love, knowing what you want from your altar and setting your intention is what is most important.

  2. Find a sacred space. Select a place in your home that you see regularly as a constant reminder of your intentions. A bedroom corner, living space nook, even a hallway all work well.

  3. Choose items that you feel connected to. Select items that align with your intentions and your spiritual growth. A special candle, a photo of an inspiring person, a poem, crystals, items found in nature, anything that brings you towards growth is perfect.

  4. Take a time to arrange your items on your altar. Invite your intention into this space as you arrange your items. There is no right or wrong way to arrange your altar. Spend time and listen to the space, move items around, and place them where it feels most right.

  5. Make a daily ritual to spend time there. Once you create your altar, use the sacred energy you've created to remind you of your highest spiritual intentions as you start and end your day.
