Q. I have never had a facial before and am a bit concerned about how my skin will react. Also, what exactly does a facial entail and how often should you get them?
A. Recieving facials on a regular basis is key to having healthy skin. The esthetician (skin care specialist) uses products that cannot be used at home, that are stronger and more potent. Facials also assist in slowing down the aging process as well as keeping the skin in balance. All facials should include a cleanse, to help rid the skin of dirt and oil; an exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and reveal fresher, younger skin; steam to bring oxygen to the skin, as well as to soften the skin for easier extraction of whiteheads, blackheads and pustules. A massage is then given to the face and neck to soothe and calm the skin as well as improve circulation, so that you leave with a healthy glow. A mask is then applied to deliver valuable nutrients, as well as an eye and lip treatment. As a cool towel helps the mask penetrate a neck, shoulder and upper back massage is given to aid in relaxation of these high tension areas. The mask is removed and a proper serum and moisturizer is massaged into the skin. As you slowly and genltly sit up a hot towel is put over your shoulders to end the treatment. This ritual should be practiced every four to six weeks in order to maintain healthy skin.
Q: Its my first time getting a bikini wax. Any suggestions?
A: Bikini waxing is a wonderful way to be prepared for swimsuit season and also to be hair free year-round.Here are some tips so that your waxing experience is comfortable!
Make sure the hair in your bikini area is at least ¼ inches long. If it’s longer, trim it back.
Because skin tends to be more sensitive right before and right after your menstrual cycle, waxing can be more painful. Try to avoid waxing 3-4 days before and 3-4 days after your period.
Use a loofah or gentle exfoliant after waxing to prohibit ingrown hairs.
Let your esthetician know of any medications you're taking like Retin-A and Accutane or use Alpha Hydroxy Acids on your skin.
Take an aspirin or ibuprofen an hour before your appointment to help with sensitivity and inflammation.
Apply a first aid antibiotic gel with pain relief like Neosporin after the waxing if necessary.
Stay out of the sun 24 hours before and after your waxing service.
